The Uyuni Salt Flats stretches over 4,050 square miles of the Altiplano. Honeycomb looking like terraced ponds for evaporating salty water are nestled on the slope of the canyon that descends to the River Vilcanota and further down towards Sacred Valley.

Salt obtained in here was exported far and wide as it was always valued and sought after commodity. Sometimes called salt mines, they are in use already since Pre-Inca times. I've visited them same day, after the seeing Moray round terraces. Impressive salt ponds are located around 9 km to the north of Maras.
